Encounters with black bears in Sooke are rare but possible. If you see a bear on the trail, stay calm, make your presence known by speaking firmly, and avoid sudden movements. Do not run. If the bear has not noticed you, slowly back away while keeping it in sight. Follow local wildlife advisories for safety guidance.
