The Galloping Goose Regional Trail is a 55-kilometer path. It connects Victoria to Sooke on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. This old railway line gives cyclists a beautiful ride through cities, countryside, and nature. It is a popular path for commuting and fun. ​

Highlights of the Trail:

  • Diverse Scenery: Riders can enjoy varied environments, including forests, farmlands, and coastal vistas.​

  • Sooke Potholes: A popular place near Sooke, the Sooke Potholes are special rock formations by the Sooke River. They provide beautiful spots for resting and exploring.

  • Good Distance: Start downtown Victoria and follow the 55 km trail separated from traffic. A great place to start practicing your cycling tour skills.


Planning Your Cycling Tour:

  • Starting Point: The trail begins in Victoria and extends northwest to Sooke. Cyclists can choose to start at various access points depending on their desired distance and experience level.​

  • Trail Conditions: The Galloping Goose Trail is well-kept and mostly flat. Good for cyclists of all skill levels.

  • Distance: The full length from Victoria to Sooke is approximately 55 kilometers (110 km round trip). ​

E-Bike Rentals and Shuttle Services:

If you need help or want a more relaxed ride, Electric Alpine has e-bike rentals and shuttle services for the Galloping Goose Trail.


Their services include:​

  • E-Bike Rentals: Rent a Volt Yukon electric bike. Enjoy riding along the trails and paths in Victoria and Sooke.

  • Shuttle Services: They provide shuttle options to various starting points along the trail, allowing riders to customize their journey.​

All rentals come equipped with a helmet, lock, custom trail map, and instructions. Family add-ons like chariots and tag-a-longs are also available.

Additional Tips:

  • Preparation: Carry essentials such as water, snacks, a basic repair kit, and appropriate clothing for changing weather conditions.​

  • Safety: Always wear a helmet, adhere to trail etiquette, and be mindful of other users, including pedestrians and equestrians.​

  • Accommodation: If planning a multi-day trip, consider booking accommodations in advance, especially during peak seasons.​

Going on a bike tour along the Galloping Goose Trail to Sooke is a great experience. It combines exercise with the natural beauty of Vancouver Island.
